My Story

Hello!I'm Roger Donovan.I'm extremely lucky to have spent my entire working life earning a living from professional photography. Not many can say they've done what they enjoy for over 50 years whilst supporting themselves and their family at the same time.

I started at the age of 17 doing some freelance work for my local weekly newspaper but they quickly offered me a staff job which I stayed in for twelve years. Way too long from a career point of view but I enjoyed the work so much I couldn't bring myself to leave.

Leave I eventually did though for the dizzy heights of The South Wales Echo and Western Mail in Wales' capital city, Cardiff. Within six years I was chief photographer and night picture editor but then moved on to The Press and Journal in Aberdeen as picture editor. After three years I again moved, this time to Edinburgh and the Evening News again as picture editor.

After another three years I decided my move into photo management was over and a return to the tools was called for. That's when, along with my wife Trish, we set up Mediaphotos, an agency specialising in press and PR photography. We operated the business for 25 years during which time we covered, press, PR, events and corporate work for many clients around the UK and relocated the business back to Cardiff.

The wide ranging experiences offered during my newspaper career put me in an ideal position to run my own business. Throughout my whole career I have covered some amazing events, met some incredible people and seen things that no other job would have offered and I am so grateful for that.

Now having given up the business I'm shooting photography for the sheer enjoyment of it. As my landscape archive expands the idea of offering these images for sale occurred to me and this website came into being.

Images can be purchased from this site as prints, framed prints or aluminium mounted wall art. I also offer a small selection of signed limited edition fine art prints which are available from their own gallery page.

I'm not a fan of over processed or manipulated images so the images you find here will be pretty much as they came off the camera with just a little tweaking of levels and some burning to give a realistic interpretation of what I saw.
